Uparkot is very old fort, from which the city derives its name stands on the eastern side of Junagadh and has been rebuilt and extended many times centuries in places. Uparkot Fort is very wonderful Fort situated on a plateau in the middle of town, was originally built during the Mauryan dynasty by Chandragupta in 319 BC.
The fort stay in use till the 6th century, and then it was enclosed over for 300 years. The old fort was swamped 16 times over an 800-year period. One vain cordon lasted twelve years.
The views over the city and east to Girnar Hill are outstanding. There are many people to visit this famous Uparkot Fort. Jama Mosque, Buddhist Caves and Adi-kadi Vav and Navghan Kuvo are tourist attraction place of Junagadh.
