Indian Railway Launches IRCTC Connect Official Android App for e-ticketing Service
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) have finally launched its official Android mobile app to enable users to book tickets on-the-go. IRCTC has named it as ‘IRCTC Connect’, the app is now available for free download for all Android 4.1 users and above.
The new android app lets you search and book your railway tickets from anywhere. You can check availability of ticket, ticket reservation, cancellation of ticket and you will also get upcoming journey alert.
The new android e-ticketing app lets users’ book railway tickets throughout the day except for the period from 8am to 12noon, the Tatkal booking time window, when access to the service is blocked for travel agents and for mobile devices to reduce server load, and from 11:30pm to 12:30am when the service is closed for maintenance.
The New Booking screen allows users to select the ‘From’ and ‘To’ stations, journey date and quota, following which the app lists all trains. Tapping on a train name opens a compartment class sub-menu, and features fare and availability information. Users can then book tickets by entering passenger information and making the payment. One missing feature is that Password change facility is not there and PNR status update is also not there.
There are about 31 crore reserve tickets being booked in a year out of which 55 percent tickets are sold through windows. While 37 percent tickets are booked online, eight percent are being booked by ticketing agents.
